End of Life Doula Services
As an End of Life Doula,
I Offer Many Things:
In the hospital, nursing home, or at home, I can help support the family as a loved one is dying - making recommendations, offering suggestions, and just listening. When it’s hard, I can help everyone feel supported and find the meaning and the beauty in the moment.
I can help a person who is terminal create a “vigil plan” for the last stages of dying, taking into account, among other things, the sights, sounds, smells, and people they would like to be surrounded with while they transition.
I can offer non-medical, holistic support to the dying person in the form of guided meditations for relaxation, greater peace, and relief of discomfort.
I can be a compassionate presence, an open heart, and a listening ear for the dying person or the family. I offer a non-judgmental attitude and a safe space for people who need to “work out” all kinds of things as death draws near.
I can help create simple ceremonies to mark the various milestones and transitions of the dying process.
I can sit with the person who is dying or their family members as an extra layer of support and presence, holding space and/or doing simple things to help with everyone’s comfort.
I can help keep the focus on the sacred, for the family and for those who wish to experience that at the time of death.
I can help the person who is terminal to talk about their life and if desired, create a “legacy project” to connect their life to the lives of those who will follow them. It can be as simple as helping to write letters to children or grandchildren or as complex as art projects, memory boards, or memorial gardens, just to name a few.
As a minister, I can work with the dying person and the family to help plan the funeral or memorial service and then officiate it if desired.
